“Somewhere Between the Chaos and the Calm”

Observing, Absorbing, Becoming.

I’ve always been a little… hypersensitive to the world. Not in the “cries at commercials” kind of way (though, guilty), but in the way where I feel everything. Energy, tension, shifts in mood – like my inner radar is always scanning. Even as a kid, it was like I had this invisible antenna tuned into people and places, picking up on things others seemed to miss.

I’d sit in the back seat of my mom’s car, watching strangers pass by through the window.
I was drawn to their body language, the way their faces shifted with emotion, and the silent stories unfolding in their expressions. I couldn’t help but wonder: where were they going? Who were they meeting? What kind of lives were they leading in their busy rush?
It wasn’t boredom that captivated me – it was the mystery of it all, the way the world seemed full of untold stories, just waiting to be imagined. Something in me was always observing, absorbing. It felt like a superpower at times… and other times, like a slow emotional leak I couldn’t plug.

There’s always been this duality in me: the extroverted, chatty version who connects deeply with others… and the quieter, reflective side that needs space, solitude, and time to process. It’s like there were two versions of me, tag-teaming based on the situation. One thrives in connection, the other watches from the shadows, quietly narrating the scene like an emotional David Attenborough.

Growing up as an only child to two wildly outgoing parents meant I was always around people. Big family parties, constant conversations, life happening at full volume. I loved it but I also loved the quiet. Those rare, still moments where I could just be without having to speak or perform.

As I’ve grown older, that quieter side has become louder – ironic, I know. But it’s the part of me I trust more now. The part that doesn’t need to chase anything. That doesn’t feel the need to prove or hustle or keep up. It just is. Grounded. Peaceful. Honest.

Lately, I’ve been flooded with memories from childhood – snapshots of time with my parents, moments with friends, relationships that shaped me. And with that comes the bittersweet realization: I’ve often felt out of place. Not in a dramatic, “no one understands me” way – just different. A little outside the edges of what felt normal.

That feeling is most apparent in nature. There, I feel connected. Alive. I notice the way light filters through leaves, the breeze against my skin, the small, quiet miracles happening all around me. In cities, it’s the rhythm, the texture of life, the dance between noise and stillness. And always, always, I feel people. Their energy, even unspoken. Sometimes especially unspoken.

And that’s the thing – I feel it all. Walk into a crowded room, and I’ll know who’s anxious, who’s pretending, who’s desperate to be seen. That kind of awareness is a gift… until it isn’t. Until it drains me. And recently, I’ve found myself weary. Of noise. Of superficial conversations. Of environments soaked in ego and chaos and competition.

For a long time, I played along. I became part of the cycle – trying to keep up, to fit in, to play a role I didn’t even recognize. I gave, and gave, and gave some more, thinking maybe that was just who I was: the helper, the fixer, the one who absorbs the pain of others and quietly carries it away.

But eventually, that kind of emotional generosity without boundaries becomes a form of self-betrayal. I learned that the hard way. And so, I’m learning now to protect my energy. To stop pouring myself into cups that don’t value the water.

It’s not about becoming closed off. It’s about becoming clear. About knowing what feels like peace and choosing it, unapologetically.

I still feel everything, but I don’t carry it all anymore.

Now, I want stillness. Not absence or avoidance – just space. To feel, to breathe, to exist without explanation. I want meaningful conversations, not small talk. Depth, not performance. I want to sit with someone in silence and have it feel like a symphony.

This is where I am: stepping into a version of myself that isn’t built on people-pleasing or survival mode. One that doesn’t need to hustle for worth or shrink to fit in. I’m choosing softness but with boundaries. Openness with discernment.

And I’m learning day by day that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is nothing at all. To simply be. Quietly. Fully. Authentically.

There’s healing in stillness. And I’m ready for it.
