Shedding Layers: Reflections on Another Year

And just like that, another year has passed – soul intact.

This year didn’t always move gently. There were moments that stretched me, lessons I hadn’t expected, and truths I faced quietly. But through it all, I kept showing up for myself, for growth, for healing.

Every birthday, beyond the chocolate hazelnut cake with fresh cream (absolutely delish!) and cozy family moments, I take a quiet pause for reflection: Where am I? Who have I become? And what parts of me still need healing?

This year, I didn’t travel abroad… no Parisian escapes, no fancy dinners (though I miss those at times..). Instead, I sought the cozy, peaceful moments where I could simply be. Sleep in. Eat my favourite food. Sip wine. Watch my favourite film. Read my favourite book. All surrounded by my favourite humans and cuddles from the cutest four-legged love of my life.

The older I get, the less certain everything seems to make sense, and somehow, that’s okay. Growing older feels less like adding years and more like shedding layers, until what remains is real and aligned. It’s crazy how suddenly your perspective shifts how things that once felt vital lose their weight, replaced by a quiet craving for peace.

I’ve learned that people who judge and criticize, who sabotage their own lives and sometimes others often come from a place of deep insecurity, anger, or pain. Different traumas shape each of us in unique ways. Those who seek your comfort, friendship, or love may eventually drift away not because of you, but because they haven’t yet found that same comfort or love within themselves. And sometimes, your truth becomes too uncomfortable for them to face.

The older you grow, the more you crave coziness, peace, and groundedness. What once felt like failure gradually reveals itself to be nothing more than seaweed drifting in the vast ocean of life.

You don’t always notice these changes…
Not until what you once chased no longer matters.
Not until peace feels more valuable than attention.
Not until you look back and realize you’ve outgrown who you were.

I’ve released things I once clung to.
Outgrown versions of myself I thought would last forever.
Yet, through it all, I remain connected to who I truly am.

With time, you start seeing things clearly…
Not everyone is meant to stay.
Not every connection is genuine.
Not every relationship withstands the obstacles.
And that’s perfectly okay.

You learn that most people listen only when your story echoes their own experiences.
It’s not personal, it’s human.
With time, life teaches you to stop taking things so personally.
You begin to discern what’s real and what’s just convenient for others.

You learn about boundaries, not walls, but gentle lines that protect your peace.
You realize self-care isn’t always candles and baths; sometimes it’s silence.
Sometimes, it’s walking away from things that no longer feel right, even if they once did.

You come to understand that health – mental, physical, emotional – is everything.
Protecting your energy becomes essential to your well-being.
You speak less.
You stop explaining yourself.
You allow others to misunderstand you if they choose.

And in that freedom, you find strength.

You gather lessons from mistakes you once feared would break you, carrying them not as burdens but as wisdom.

Dreams once distant become reality. A home, a love, a career, a sense of belonging.
And then new dreams emerge, quieter, softer built around happiness, purpose, and peace.

With sweat, tears, and grit, you don’t just build a life. You build yourself. Stronger. Wiser. Real. Without regrets.

The approval you once sought in others?
You now give it to yourself.
Validation is no longer necessary, you are the judge of your own life.

This isn’t bitterness.
It’s clarity.
It’s growth.
It’s becoming whole.

If you’re still being too hard on yourself for not doing things the “right” way. Stop.
Maybe you’re not meant to understand everything yet.
Maybe you’re still becoming.
And that’s okay.

Sometimes, it takes stepping back to see how far you’ve come.
Sometimes, it takes gratitude to recognize how full your life already is.

So be patient with yourself.
Keep growing.
Keep witnessing your journey.
You’re not behind, you’re unfolding.
One lesson at a time.
One moment of clarity at a time.

If this year taught me anything, it’s that keeping your soul intact, your light, your softness, your depth is a quiet victory.

So here I am … a little wiser, a little more whole, and deeply grateful for it all.
